Real Vanilla Coffee
There are many vanilla flavored coffees on the market. Unfortunately, many of them are artificially flavored and don't contain any vanilla at all. Here's a simple way to get real vanilla flavor in your coffee and use the leftover vanilla pod from other recipes.
Vanilla Bean, scraped
Your favorite whole bean coffee
If you are using a fresh vanilla bean, you can either scrape out the
seeds for use in another recipe or add the entire bean for longer lasting,
more intense flavor.
If you are using the scraped pod from a recipe in which it was cooked
in a liquid (such as milk) then rinse the pod with water and allow to
dry.
You can also use the vanilla pod from an old batch of Vanilla
Sugar.
Place a half inch to one inch of vanilla bean in your coffee grinder along with the coffee. You may need to cut the vanilla into quarter inch pieces to facilitate the grinding. You can experiment with the amount of vanilla you use to get the taste you desire. Even a small amount of vanilla will enhance the flavor of coffee. Larger amounts willl impart a distinct vanilla flavor. I like to use about an inch of vanilla for half a pot of coffee (7 - 8 cups).
